My Homework 2 project was to make a simple automaton (moving machine). for my automaton I decided to make a marble run with a lift. I found my marble run design on Thingiverse Here. I did not design the marble run but I did add a graphic to the lift cog and added my name onto the bottom.

I was able to save a lot of time in my design process by first making a cardboard model to check for functionality and then cutting my part out on the Glow forge. because cardboard is corrugated the cardboard model did not operate, however I figured that since the wood is solid I wouldn't have that issue in the final cut. The part file was designed for 3 mm medium density fiberboard and after looking around the shop a bit I found that the sheet of Glowforge pro medium draft board was 3 mm in thickness and would match the design perfectly. If I had time I would have liked to redesign the run and make it longer.

I used a single sheet of Glowforge proof grade medium draft board for my project. This allowed me to skip the test cut on scrap material because Glowforge automatically has all of the settings dialed in to cut and engrave perfectly onto the material, and it worked perfectly. I had a little bit of post processing where I took off the masking tape paper from the material and added hardware, and glued the pieces together. the machine was designed for 10 mm ball bearings and I was able to find 9.5 mm ball bearings in the electronics shop that fit perfectly.
