Bogue - Frisbee Final Project

For my final project, I decided to make another frisbee using the CNC method. This time, I was planning on laser engraving the Trinity Ultimate team logo on the disc, so I needed to modify the model so that it would be flat on top for the laser to work. I also decided to go with a counter-mold method for CNCing the bottom of the disc, since the wood would be more sturdy than the foam I made the previous disc from and I would be able to detach it easily from the mold. With my model ready to go, I could start the CNC process. Once I had the top part of the disc shaped, I could cut the mold and move on to the bottom half. Unfortunately, some parts of the plywood were weaker and began to flake and lose integrity, and part of the rim of the disc flew off during the CNC process. HW #2: Laser Cut Bracelet: Nathan Richter

For the homework #2 I decided to design and laser cut a wearable bracelet. I thought about a couple of materials but an the end I settled on wood because I though it would have a nice feel to it and present a challenge in its design and construction. I also settled on 0.2" thickness since the wood we have available in the shop has a glossy finish on it which resists additional burning from the laser. At the same time, this thickness gives the bracelet the necessary strength to be worn without worry. The bracelet itself is made of a series of hexagonal pieces which are connected via links. There was a limit to how small I could make these links, since they had to accommodate the thickness of the wood, while also retaining the required strength. I originally used Adobe Illustrator to design the pieces but switched over to Fusion 360 once I realized the amount of tinkering the design would require. The design for my toolbox was inspired by the example design, but I wanted to make a few improvements. The most major improvement I was looking at was the handle. I don't find straight handles comfortable, so I decided to cut out a curved handle that fits my hand. This is shown in picture 1. I also decided to use a larger round bit to route the edge of the handle for extra comfort. The other improvements I made were decreasing the size of the supports for easier access to the box (picture 2) and changing the order of the panels around to improve ease of assembly (picture 3). The build process started with using the miter saw to cut each panel to length. I designed the box so that each panel only needed to be cut along the length axis, meaning only one miter saw cut per panel. I then cut the shaped pieces, the handle and the supports, using a jigsaw.
